Section 1: Introduction

My name is Chris Swann and I am the chair of the English and Religion departments at Holy Innocents' Episcopal School in Atlanta, Georgia. My job is a teacher's dream--I teach three classes of seniors and get to work with my colleagues on the nuts-and-bolts of teaching in a classroom: curriculum choices and development, designing projects, discussing student and teacher evaluation, and interacting with young people as a positive role model. Plus, I get to spout off poetry at the drop of a hat.

Section 2: Favorite Things

Favorite books? I'm an English teacher--the list would take forever to read. But some favorites:
  • Moby-Dick by Herman Melville
  • Henry IV, Part One and Hamlet by William Shakespeare
  • Polar Star by Martin Cruz Smith
  • Sacred Games by Vikram Chandra
  • Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell by Susanna Clarke
  • The Secret History by Donna Tartt
  • The Terror by Dan Simmons

Favorite quotes:
  • "A little more than kin, and less than kind." (Hamlet, Hamlet, 1.2)
  • "In irony we lead the world." (Arkady Renko, Polar Star)
  • "My heart has been, and always will be, yours." (Edward Ferrars--played by Hugh Grant--in Ang Lee's Sense and Sensibility)

Section 3: Burning Questions
